FEBRUARY 7, 2018

Hello everyone,

Mining exploration outlooks are positive for 2018. The year 2017 was characterized by investments that were higher than planned ($539 M), comparable to what was invested over the previous two years. You should therefore be carrying out your projects in an environment more conducive to funding and investment. We will be watching for the publication of the Fraser Institute report in the spring, which will tell us how Quebec is perceived and how we rank in comparison with the other mining jurisdictions on the planet. In Quebec, we will continue working on the issues that impact our activities:

  • Reduced regulatory burden;
  • Mining exploration tax incentives (federal and provincial);
  • Aboriginal consultation policy unique to the mining sector;
  • Regulations resulting from the modernization of the Environment Quality Act;
  • The Règlement sur l’aménagement durable en forêt;
  • The Projet de loi sur les habitats fauniques;
  • Withdrawal of land from mining exploration.

We are also working on the programming for Explo Abitibi and Xplor. Once again this year, the Quebec Mineral Exploration Association will be putting on two quality events benefitting Quebec’s mineral industry. Mark your calendars and get ready to register!

See you soon,

Valérie Fillion, Executive Director

The annual gathering of the mining industry in Abitibi-Témiscamingue

From May 28 to June 1st, 2018, in partnership with the Forum technologique of Consorem, the event will offer a complete program that will help you to improve your knowledge while leaving a prime place for business networking. Details to come, stay tuned!
