George Burns, will be the Honorary President of Xplor 2019

3 July 2019

It is with enthusiasm that the Quebec Mineral Exploration Association (QMEA) announces that George Burns, President and CEO of Eldorado Gold Corporation, will be the Honorary President of Xplor 2019, on October 23-24. In addition to being present at the event, Mr. Burns will present a conference.

Mr. Burns joined Eldorado Gold in 2017. Previously, he was Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer at Goldcorp. He also held the positions of Senior Vice President, Operations in Mexico and Vice President for Canada and the United States respectively. Prior to that, he was Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Centerra Gold Inc.

Eldorado Gold is a Canadian gold and base metals producer with more than 25 years of experience exploring for, building and operating mines in Europe, Asia and the Americas. The company is dedicated to responsible operations, the highest safety and environmental standards and working with stakeholders to contribute to the communities where it operates.

In Quebec, Eldorado Gold’s Lamaque project near Val d’Or reached commercial production in March 2019. More than 100,000 ounces of gold are expected to be produced this year (including pre-commercial production). Exploration work continues to expand the lower portion of the Lamaque Triangle orebody. The company prioritizes the health and safety of employees, neighbours and the environment, and is committed to the improvement of communities in Abitibi-Témiscamingue.

“We are proud to welcome Mr. George Burns as Honorary President at our Annual Conference. Eldorado Gold’s exploration and development strategy has contributed to the development of Québec’s mining industry. The history of underground mining exploration on the Lamaque property dates back more than 80 years. The first gold discovery was made by Robert C. Clark in 1923. The focus on the safety of people and the environment, the promotion of honesty, transparency and accountability in all their business practices, and investment in their employees are values shared by our industry.” Mathieu Savard, Chairman of the QMEA Board of Directors.

“Our exploration teams are actively pursuing early stage project opportunities in territories where we are already present and in new regions. Our strategy is to discover, acquire and develop high quality assets in prospective regions. We are extremely proud to be contributing to the development of Quebec with the Lamaque project. It is my pleasure to join Xplor and invite you to participate.” George Burns, Honorary President of Xplor 2019.
